Increasing your glutathione may provide health benefits, including reducing the oxidative stress that can contribute to symptoms in many different chronic conditions, including autoimmune disease. Glutathione is an antioxidant produced in cells.
Glutathione is an antioxidant found naturally in your body. Also known as GSH, it is produced by the liver and nerve cells in the central nervous system and is made from three amino acids: glycine , L-cysteine , and L-glutamate. Glutathione can help metabolize toxins, break down free radicals , support immune function, and more. This article discusses the antioxidant glutathione along with its uses and purported benefits. It also provides examples of how to get more glutathione in your diet.

Purpose: Survival of lung cancer patients has been dismal. Glutathione enzymes are directly involved in the metabolism of platinum compounds, a group of important chemotherapeutic drugs in cancer treatment. We tested the hypothesis that genes encoding glutathione enzymes may predict lung cancer short-term survival. Pearson's chi 2 -square tests, Kaplan-Meier survival curves, log rank tests, and Cox regression models were applied in the analysis. Among never smokers, those with null N or low L genotype experienced a better 1-year-survival rate than those with a positive P or high H genotype.
Increasing your glutathione may provide health benefits, including reducing the oxidative stress that can contribute to symptoms in many different chronic conditions, including autoimmune disease. Glutathione is an antioxidant produced in cells. Glutathione levels in the body may be reduced by a number of factors, including poor nutrition, environmental toxins, and stress. Its levels also decline with age. In addition to being produced naturally by the body, glutathione can be given intravenously, topically, or as an inhalant. However, oral ingestion of glutathione may not be as effective as intravenous delivery for some conditions.

Antioxidants are substances that may protect your cells against free radicals, which may play a role in heart disease, cancer and other diseases. Free radicals are molecules produced when your body breaks down food or when you're exposed to tobacco smoke or radiation. Antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E and carotenoids, may help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. Other naturally occurring antioxidants include flavonoids, tannins, phenols and lignans. Plant-based foods are the best sources. These include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices, and even cocoa. As a bonus, fruits, vegetables and whole grains high in antioxidants are also typically high in fiber, low in saturated fat and cholesterol, and good sources of vitamins and minerals. So enjoy the variety. There is a problem with information submitted for this request.
