So, when I was approached by the Spanish Tourist Office to guess corralejo a blog post on the hidden gems of Fuerteventura I was pretty excited! I often hear people disregard the Canary Islands as a holiday destination for hiking or enjoying the beauty and calmness of untouched nature. However, most of the islands have so much more to offer, beyond hotel blocks and cheap fast food. Fuerteventura is located in the Atlantic Ocean. Mostly due to its mild and steady climate, Fuerteventura is also referred to as the island of eternal spring. From beautiful beaches to breathtaking views from various craters and hilltops. Most people know Fuerteventura either as a hot spot for surfing or as a relatively cheap all-inklusive-hotel-package destination. Which, I guess, are the two things that most people come for. But Fuerteventura has so much more to offer. I went there for the first time in and was extremely surprised by the beauty of the island. Or so I thought. Thus, hiking on Fuerteventura means exploring quite a varied landscape. From seemingly endless dunes of white desert sand to rough volcano craters and breathtaking views over the entire island and sea. The north of the island has a very lovely, relaxed atmosphere, especially in little towns like Lajares or El Cotillo. There are quite a few nice little coffee places, restaurants, and bars to hang out. Given the super chilled atmosphere, the gorgeous beaches, and nature around, I spent nearly all my time in the north of the island.

This is a special cave which is filled with artefacts from a more ancient age in Fuerteventura.

As you would expect, there is a large one around the international airport, then a couple of smaller ones dotted around the island, which I believe are related to military installations. Corralejo- the bustling, charming, free-spirited town in the north of Fuerteventura is the epicenter of sunlight, good vibes, and lots of places to eat. Known for its natural park and the golden sand dunes, this town has been attracting a lot of digital nomads, solo travelers, and young families who are traveling to the island to take a break for months of stay or simply strolling by for a week of surf. In my opinion, the best way to explore Corralejo is to start at its seaside promenade and music square, where you can find a lot of local restaurants, food joints, open terrace cafes, and cocktail bars buzzing with energy and people from varied nationalities around the world. I have realized this is one of the best places to meet new people.

Corralejo is probably the most popular resort in Fuerteventura and it's situated in the very north of the island, being a part of the municipality of La Oliva. The resort is 30 to 40 minutes away by car from the airport, and we recommend getting either a taxi, a private transfer or a rental car, as there's no direct bus line between the airport and the resort. If you want to get from the airport to Corralejo by bus, you need to first take the no.

Undiscovered Beaches This section is a bit more tricky as the tourism influence in Fuerteventura has really increased in recent years. Housesteads was built in AD by the Emperor Hadr. In total, there are around 75km of beach, 50 km 31 mi of white sand, and 25 km 16 mi of black volcanic shingles.
