This unidentified Forerunner relic is a type of Forerunner structure located on the surface of the shield world Trove. The structure was a Forerunner platform with a central control panel, which provided remote access to the nearby Flood containment facility. It has a large Forerunner symbol that correspond to those found at the entrance into the facility. By , although the external surface of containment facility was overrun by Flood infestation, the control panels remained operational, allowing users to release Flood from the containment facility. The Forerunner Relic appears exclusively on the Halo Wars Skirmish level Release ; one located on the northern corner of the map, while the other is located on the southwest corner. Each Relic is defended by a Flood Root.

The Forerunners Latin Primoris Prognatus meaning "first born" were once a highly advanced and ancient Tier 1 [4] [5] species whose empire, the Ecumene , was spread across three million fertile worlds in the Milky Way galaxy approximately , years ago. The Forerunners had taken up a role as custodians of the galaxy and believed that the " Mantle of Responsibility ," the center of their society and culture, had been passed down to them by the Precursors , an even more powerful race that preceded the Forerunner civilization. The alien alliance known as the Covenant worshiped the Forerunners as gods, deriving much of their technology from Forerunner artifacts found throughout the galaxy, and believing any who defaced these relics to be Heretics. Around 15 million years BCE, the Precursors seeded the Forerunners on the world known as Ghibalb , described as a paradise, which would become their nascent homeworld. However, after the Forerunners' early experiments in stellar engineering ended in disaster, resulting in a series of novas in the Orion complex, the planet became desolate and scoured with radiation. The Forerunners were a very advanced civilization, coming to power after the destruction of the Precursors, who were presumed to have created the Forerunners in order to continue the Mantle of Responsibility. Soon after, the Forerunners became the dominant species in the galaxy, their empire spanning over three million fertilized and inhabited worlds. The Forerunners reached the peak of their civilization approximately , BCE. Their civilization was based around the Mantle of Responsibility, the belief that it was the Forerunners' duty to protect all life in the galaxy. They presumably monitored the evolution of other sentient species throughout the galaxy, intervening in ways that ensured their civilizations would follow paths of peace, free of conflict. One such occasion is the devolution of the human empire to prevent further conflict emanating from what they considered a "violent species.
The Librarian considered the wars to have been the greatest threat to Forerunner power in their history and believed the conflict weakened the Forerunners enough to allow the Flood to emerge victorious until the firing of the Halo wars forerunner. The Forerunners of the Halo series used to be quite the mystery, but as the series went on, and the lore got filled in with books and backstory inside and out of the games, these shadowy and strange aliens slowly emerged as a species of almost infinite power and ego. The Forerunner lore in the Halo series is absolutely fascinating and there is a huge library of interesting details and backstory to get lost in for hours on end. It can seem a little overwhelming at first glance, but once you scratch the surface, their impact on the wider Halo story becomes much more significant. The Forerunners are an ancient race of hyper-advanced aliens whose vast Empire spanned entire galaxies. They were technologically advanced to such a degree as to seem almost godlike, and with substantially extended lifespans they would rule most of the galaxy for several millennia, leaving their influence and achievements on multiple worlds. Something that would lead to the rise of a certain group of religious zealots the Covenant in the far future. Unbeknownst to some, they are not the original beings in the universe as they themselves were created. The Forerunners are just one of many early lifeforms created by the Precursors, a staggeringly ancient race of Lovecraftian creatures whose sole purpose was the spreading of life throughout the universe.
