Havel the rock
Havel the Rock was once a bishop and a close friend and battlefield compatriot of Lord Havel the rock 's. He served on the battlefield alongside Gwyn, leading a group of men in armor carved from solid rock.
Havel the Rock is a powerful opponent found at the bottom of the spiral watchtower leading up to the Taurus Demon in the Undead Burg , guarding the entrance to Darkroot Basin. He wields a massive dragon's tooth hammer and Havel's Greatshield while wearing the heavy Havel's Set. While somewhat slow moving due to his heavy gear, his attacks deal incredible damage to unwary opponents, and his armor and shield protect him from all but the strongest counter attacks. Havel is aggressive, and will pursue you on sight a fairly far distance within the general confines of his tower. It is unclear whether he was the head Bishop of the order or whether he deferred to Allfather Lloyd, the patriarch of Thorolund itself.
Havel the rock
Havel the Rock is a dangerous optional sub-boss who guards the bottom of the tower that leads to Darkroot Basin. He was locked in the tower for unknown reasons before the events of Dark Souls. It is known that he was a former bishop of the Way of the White and was close friends with Kingskeeper Frampt and Lord Gwyn. He hates magic, and is the creator of the magic-protecting miracles Magic Barrier and Great Magic Barrier. His hatred of magic is also evident by his attire and weapon, both of which are focused on physical protection and physical damage. His armor set and ring are highly valuable tools for players as the former offers a large amount of protection, while the latter increases the amount a player can carry effectively as long as it is equipped. The armor set is not dropped by Havel, but can be found in another location. He will always drop Havel's Ring upon death. Although his attacks are very powerful, making him an extremely dangerous foe to fight up close, Havel is relucant to leave the watchtower he either guards or is imprisoned in. This means that an easy way to defeat Havel is to stand on the steps just outside the door to the watchtower and lure Havel out. When he swings at you, dodge the blow by going outside, and when he backs up charge in and hit him. You should be able to get in two strikes per time and he should go down fairly easily. The main drawback of the Lure and Strike strategy is that it often takes a long time to lure Havel towards the door over and over again. Plus, it's not in the spirit of the thing now, is it?
Once rispoted, immediately target Havel again.
Havel returns once more, this time as an enemy summoned by wizards in Archdragon Peak , and also in a proper encounter at the top of one of the buildings of this sacred place. The fight, however, will not be as difficult as it was in Lordran , since the player will most likely be at a high level and wielding advanced weaponry at that point in the game. In addition, the combat area will be much more spacious, allowing for better evading maneuvers. New to his repertoire of attacks is the ability to cast Stone Flesh on himself and cover his body with a rock layer, which will render him extremely resilient to attacks, but also reduce his mobility. Havel has a small chance of being summoned by the two Man Serpent Summoners that inhabit Archdragon Peak , one of which is found in the Dragon-Kin Mausoleum , and the other just before reaching the Great Belfry. Havel's fixed location lies at the top of the building on the right after coming from the Great Belfry , standing in front of a dead wyvern and guarding a Titanite Slab ; it does not matter if he was previously defeated as a summon in any of the other two areas.

As with other enemies of this kind, he will not respawn once he has been defeated in this location. Havel will drop both the Dragon Tooth and his greatshield the first time he is defeated. If the player is not in a hurry to acquire these items, then in the case he is summoned by any of the Man Serpent Summoners it is recommended to avoid fighting him, as the combat area will be not as spacious and the summoner may meddle in the fight.

Rinse and repeat from there on. I find it strange that many consider Havel to be a hero's follower, as it's even stranger that random soldiers have access to a legendary weapon like a dragon's tooth. Make sure you don't open the door leading into the tower. At one point Havel will eventually do a big swing attack that you don't have to roll to dodge, and since you're circling, you should easily be able to get behind him and carry out a backstab or couple of normal attacks for a large amount of damage. Carved from solid rock, its tremendous weight is matched only by the defense it provides. Make sure that Havel either goes straight to the door or straight behind the door and not at you. Once his life bar has been depleted to about a half, he will retreat and attempt to cast Stone Flesh , which will wrap his body in a layer of rock and make him extremely resilient to damage, although his mobility will also be severely compromised. Or, as is the case for most if not all non-huge enemies in the game, just use the club , and easily stunlock him to death, trivializing the fight. I never use his ring anyway. Havel will stand and attempt another one-handed swing which can be parried again. Rinse and repeat. Both of these are easily avoided if you're constantly strafing left because when he starts to telegraph the strike you simply strafe left and end up behind it.
