Coney Island Kids. Eyes on the prize!

I started to focus on street photography in when I decided to take all my photos with an 85mm lens in the streets. After some time I realized that this lens was too long for this purpose. The focal length changed, the name remained and I got closer and closer. Today I take some of my street photos with a 50mm from a very short distance. Why I wrote this book? I was starting to blog on px and realized that people read it and that they wanted more.

One of the most difficult but rewarding aspects of street photography is becoming comfortable with the candid aspects of it. It is the early major learning curve, but once you learn to get through this, the sky is the limit. Eventually, the idea of getting close and comfortable photographing people will start to feel easy and normal, but there are some street photography tips and strategies that can get to you this point much quicker. As a street photographer, you can benefit from a little acting if you are going to try to get close to a subject while being inconspicuous. And I mean acting subtly. Avoid pointing your head directly at your subject or making eye contact. There is something evolutionary about eye contact that will make a person immediately notice you.
