Pieces flying off might not be that unrealistic. I've found parts of cars 3 blocks away from wrecks that happened at only 25mph. Edited by jsmack - Aug. Edited by pmegele6 - Aug. As a total beginner I tried doing car crashes and ran into the same issues as you. In my research I found that for a visible large deform of the car requires very high forces, at which the bullet solver just flips out and produces unexpected results going through collisions, popping, etc. If you look for car crashes done in Houdini on Youtube, most of what you find is slight dents and stuff that doesn't really look like a heavy impact. I think I read somewhere that for a deformation like that you want to convert the car's carosserie to a vellum cloth for a couple of frames, let it bend and twist, and then do your rbd stuff. Hi, thanks for your answer.
You can check it out at www. I had hoped that it would be easier in houdini.

Houdini is a procedural system that allows artists to work freely. Enabling them to create multiple versions of their work and providing them with the ability to share their workflows with colleagues simultaneously. If the crash log shows you anything with the Intel OpenCL driver listed. The creators of Houdini suggest disabling this driver. Removing the Intel key should cause the Intel driver to stop loading and help resolve your Houdini crash.

I guess I should have clarified that the pieces need to be watertight -- rather than the whole car. Hi, real noob question: i am trying to learn how to do a car crash. Thanks alot man, am looking for improving this by animating the car in Mad car or director then add sparticle spark on impact. I am starting to VFX and will love to follow that course. I'd love to push this further by having TyFlow do the crumpling. MeHoo My spirit animal is a monster truck.

Thanks so much! I did have to move some pieces of the interior around -- they were intersecting with the rear wheels, so the wheels were getting pushed out sideways at the beginning of the scene. If you enjoy this video, take a moment to like the video and subscribe to the channel as I am try to post videos twice per week and have a lot more visual effects training for max and houdini coming up!
