Beware of spoilers. Violette Violette Rem Vahan. The eldest daughter of the ducal house Vahan. In the past, she grew angry at and jealous of her half sister Maryjune for being given the affection of both her father and Prince Claudia. She eventually tried to murder Maryjune, for which she was locked up for the rest of her life. After traveling a year back in time to her second year at the academy, she plans to avoid everyone as much as possible and leave her family to become a nun once she has graduated. Abusive Parents : Violette's mother, Bellerose, mistreated her daughter after her husband left her. She forced Violette to dress and act like Auld. Marin witnessed how Bellerose forced her to act as her husband when they were in private to the point it gave Marin nightmares. Violette also received numerous injuries in her youth that Marin attempted to treat her for. After Bellerose died, it became clear that Bellerose had been the one inflicting these injuries on her. Auld on the other hand left Violette in the hands of her abusive mother and never bothered to keep her safe.

This story is an interesting one.

Manga Vol. Is Violette destined for trouble even in this new timeline?! As Violette tries to figure out a new plan, she remains oblivious to the fact that the prince has fallen for her!

The writing didn't initially appeal to me, except for the fact that it was third person POV. A family she clearly is not a part of. Interestingly, while Violette is reflective and mindful of her actions, Maryjune lacks self-awareness and the ability to reflect on them unless someone, namely Violette, has to spell it out for her. She gets called out on this selfishness by both Yulan and Violette. But even so, I find it still focuses on Violette despite anything else happening in the scene. She makes it clear to Maryjune that she hates her and her parents, and she wishes for them to be out of her life. In most cases, he can keep himself composed, but he definitely makes his distaste known. No character arcs other than sort of one for one of the secondary characters the prince, in how he learns to get along with the MC. Royals Who Actually Do Something : She entered the academy to become engaged to Claudia in order to create a military alliance between their home countries, so no other country would consider invading her homeland. Despite getting to go back and relive a part of her life, the ramifications and effects of the old one have still taken their toll on her and her mental state. That'd be all well and good if this was a comedy, but trying to grapple intense subject matter through such blank slates is ineffectual. Violette is simply better at keeping herself composed in the new timeline. Is This A Zombie? Arc Villain : After her husband is away, she becomes a new nightmare for Violette, and she is an obstacle in Marin's attempts to get Violette help. Hypocrite : In the new timeline, his bully hunter ways caused him to immediately assume Violette was bullying her younger sister when Violette had nothing to do with the bullying. Rosette calls him out by saying that he better not act like he's doing this for Violette's sake, and Yulan merely replies that he's doing it for his own sake, and he's unbothered by anything she says which causes Rosette to become unnerved. If you're asking how it turned out like this, I, the author, am the one who knows that answer the least. At times the emotions are over-elaborated, in my opinion, or sometimes Violette's conclusions don't quite make sense, but the reader's anxiety over her making missteps leading to a reprise of her "bad ending" is a major part of what makes the book tick. She forced Violette to dress and act like Auld.
