Nepomniachtchi won the Candidates, but Ding secured second place by beating Hikaru Nakamura in a must-win final-round game.

Moments away from all but securing the title, Nepomniachtchi imploded and allowed Ding to claw his way back to The 13th and penultimate game will start on Thursday, April 27, at Astana time 2 a. In the press conference following game 11, Ding proclaimed that "anything could happen" when quizzed about his chances of coming back in the match.
