The highly-anticipated survival game Icarus showed some gameplay in a recent livestream in order to build hype for the game. The game, which comes from studio RocketWerkz and Icarus gameplay Hall, icarus gameplay, the creator of the hugely popular survival game DayZwas first revealed last year with a gameplay trailer. Since then, however, there has been little information as to what the gameplay of Icarus will look like.

Icarus is a session-based survival video game by developer RocketWerkz. The game takes place on the fictional planet of Icarus, located roughly four light years from Earth. The planet was the site of an attempted terraforming procedure, however unforeseen complications arose from exotic materials present on Icarus. These exotic materials cause the terraforming process to fail and leave the planet uninhabitable to humans. The process does however make the planet home to a viable ecosystem composed of genetically modified flora and fauna. Players take on the role of an explorer sent to explore the planet, retrieve scientific samples, and eventually gather exotic materials for eventual sale on Earth.

ICARUS may have debuted as a bill of goods, but it is shaping up to be an exciting survival sandbox experience. A rich RPG customization system intersects with a bevy of game modes to provide gamers with a variety of building and adventuring experiences. After that ordeal, it may surprise no one that a significant fraction of the gaming community felt as singed by the process and the resulting state of the game as the wings of its namesake, and they expressed that discomfort with mixed reviews. Today, ICARUS plays much closer to a complete game, one that has been heavily influenced by its fans early in the process — since even before the betas began. The concept amounts to co-op with a real-time mission clock this is opposed to a simple timer that pauses when you exit the game to check whether or not the world has ended yet. If the timer expires, your character has missed the launch window and is doomed to perish.
