It is reasonable to assume prices for the ICF-P26 may fall after it has been available for a while. Their comparison is interesting because their size and layout are almost identical as you can see in the pictures. Reception was pretty much what I expected…my normal local and suburban strength stations were there and seemed to be coming in well enough…my weaker out of town test stations were not there. This was as I expected but it did seem that the bottom of the AM band was not quite as good as the middle and top end of the band, while just the opposite seemed true on FM where reception seemed a bit better near the bottom of the band than on the top. No big surprise there either…this is typical of inexpensive radios which are designed to let you hear your local stations on the go.

The smallest, the ICF-P26 was already reviewed in the Pocket Portables Article where you can see how it compares with several other pocket-sized radios. Just slightly larger is the ICF-P36, surprisingly selling for about the same price right now at Amazon. Make no mistake about it, none of these matches the slightly larger and more expensive portables I recently reviewed… the ICF — ICF and ICF, which are a bit larger and sell at higher prices. There is also something magical to me about catching a ballgame on a small radio which reminds me of the pocket portables of my childhood. The ICF-P26 is a vertical design — a true pocket radio. This chip predates DSP chips but still allows for great unit-to-unit consistency and ease of assembly. There are two LEDs, one for Power and the other a Tune indicator which illuminates when a station is properly tuned in. Although it is a mono unit it has a stereo earphone jack so you will get audio through both sides of your earbuds. There is also a swivel rod antenna for FM. Overall it does a credible job and for the money delivers what I would expect in terms of reception and sound quality.

I could tune in traces of my weaker out of town test signals which I could find no trace of on the P Sometimes you do have to find the right spot but that's with any radio.
