Would it have been received in a much more positive way if it was a part of the MCU plan from the start? Would it have been considered a breakout movie for female superheroes if 'Wonder Woman' hadn't come out 2 years ago? For some, ' Captain Marvel ' was nothing more than filler content from the start and trying to convince them otherwise is futile. But, the fact remains, if you've invested in 20 MCU movies over the last 10 years or so, then why not invest in one more before watching, what will possibly be, the highest grossing movie of all time? So, if you haven't watched the movie yet and are willing to understand my reasoning with an open mind then read on. Even if you've watched the movie and just want a few reasons to justify why 'Captain Marvel' can't be missed, read on. But, if you've already made up your mind about 'Captain Marvel' not being worth it, then go watch 'Avengers: Endgame' when it's out. You'll feel like you've missed something in between. There's no coming back from that, though. You can only watch 'Endgame' for the first time once. The only reason you're invested in the Avengers as a team and the MCU as a franchise is because you've seen all your favourite characters develop on the big screen. Almost all of the superheroes barring the Hulk have received multiple solo movies where we get to learn more about them without having to worry about the collective. That's something 'Captain Marvel' lacks right now. No one knows who she is or what she can do. Yes, a two-hour movie is not going to allow for as much character development as a couple of films or a trilogy.

If you look at every new Marvel superhero story as having to perform the one task of getting the audience to root for a performer playing a new hero, then Captain Marvel is a success. Since the MCU depends on getting the audience to root for the characters since those superheroes will be reused in other movies, not just sequels, getting that aspect right is paramount, and Brie Larson makes Captain Marvel her own. She seemed like she has potential for other types of roles but seemed really out of place here. This year has helped me realize that i can't trust professionally film critics to tell me where to put my money. It also strikes a good balance between 'heavy' and 'lighthearted'. The basic plot of the movie acts both as an origin story for Captain Marvel and also a tie-in for the upcoming Avengers film. The people that I liked in the movie did not have a lot of screen time excluding Jackson and Mendelsohn. It has all the nice effects, super super powers and a strong woman in front. The filmmakers indie directors of the great "Half Nelson" have given absolutely no attention to the music: the score is completely forgettable as are the 90's songs. Was this review helpful? It is just a pity that the Marvel folks may force Brie to work with some of the other pathetic characters that bore my socks off! The characters were likeable and played their parts very well. A lot of the above points still stand but I was a bit harsh because it didn't meet my expectations at the time.
