Dead Cells is an absolutely fantastic roguelike platformer that unfortunately lacks co-op.

Dead Cells is still one of the best roguelikes you can play today, and now developer Motion Twin has only gone and made another promising action roguelike, this time with co-op. Motion Twin unveiled Windblown during tonight's Game Awards live show with a lovely animated trailer. Our first-look was light on gameplay, but the few snippets of in-game action look great, and quite frankly, doubting Motion Twin on action roguelikes is like doubting FromSoftware on fantasy RPGs. Windblown will be fully playable solo, but also allow for up to three-player online co-op play. I'm trying to imagine playing isometric Dead Cells with two buds, and I'm trying and failing to stay calm. Windblown is targeting a early access launch on PC, and while other platforms haven't been announced, consoles seem probable given Dead Cells' reach. The Steam page predicts an Early Access stay of "a minimum of one year," with the launch build delivering five biomes, four main weapons, and full co-op support.

This games looks like awesome and would be even more awesome to play Coop. I know it's a little harsh to change a gamemode to add something that isn't the theme of the game, but think about that, Devs, Coop it's very nice to add to a game, even games that shouldn't be Coop. Maybe you could change something or add something to change that game to be a nice Online Coop I don't know, I'm just saying. Starseed Gamer Zobacz profil Zobacz posty. Since the whole online is expensive thing, is no longer a factor.

Dead Cells developer Motion Twin revealed its new game during a surprise announcement at The Game Awards tonight, a high-speed roguelike battler called Windblown that sets players off on a quest to protect their home of floating islands from the invading forces of the Vortex. As Leapers, players will move through the open, ever-changing world known as The Ark, a place "teeming with secrets" and, unfortunately, overrun by deadly Sentinels, the minions of the Vortex. Leapers will have multiple weapons at hand and can shift their builds on the fly, and also have the ability to absorb the memories of their fallen predecessors, enabling the use of stronger and more complex weaponry and allowing players to push deeper into the game with each new run. Very broadly, Windblown's roguelike gameplay bears some similarities to the outstanding Dead Cells : The memory unlocking mechanic, for instance, sounds similar to the "cells" players collect from fallen enemies in Dead Cells that can be used on character upgrades and item blueprints. But there are some significant differences, too. The most obvious is Windblown's visual style: Where Dead Cells is a pixel-art 2D sidescroller, Windblown is played from an isometric perspective and bears a much sharper, more detailed look.

I love Dead Cells. It feels like a near-perfectly designed game. In the three years since its release, it has become even better—and a more interesting indicator of where video games are at as a medium. Like its developers, the game itself —also changed dramatically in this time. Previous updates including three paid DLCs have added everything from new skins and room layouts to wholly new gameplay mechanics. The game has also been totally rebalanced no less than three times—including a major revamp of its difficulty curve. Having gotten my hands on each of them, while returning to the game for the first time in over a year, I cannot help but be impressed with how it has changed. These weapons, unlike everything else in the game, have two distinct movesets and uses.

After five years of extensive post-launch support following a stay in early access that began in , Dead Cells developers Motion Twin and Evil Empire are finally moving on from the game. Earlier today, February 9, Motion Twin put out a Steam update, seen just below. As for itself, Evil Empire has bid farewell to Dead Cells with a message to its player base, and its co-developer. After 5 years of service, we're hanging up the Dead Cells coat. However, the entire journey with Dead Cells as a franchise doesn't appear to be done and dusted just yet. The studio unveiled Windblown , a supremely stylish co-op roguelike, so Motion Twin is definitely playing to its strengths after establishing Dead Cells as one of the best games in the genre to date.

I have to admit, the trailer was a little more violent than I expected—you don't often see cute animated animals handled quite so viscerally—but Dead Cells isn't exactly sunshine and lollipops either, and I take comfort knowing that Windblown's roguelike structure means death is really just a temporary state of being.
