The coming season will spark a return to a six team format following the Penrith Emus departure at the conclusion of the season. Each Premier Rugby club will have the opportunity to face each of their rivals on three occasions before trying to claim the silverware when finals begin. The John I Dent Cup will boast a 15 round season, in addition to 3 weeks of finals which will conclude at the end of August. The Gungahlin Eagles will kick off their championship defence in a blockbuster home fixture where they will take on semi-finalists in the Canberra Royals at Nicholls Enclosed oval. In round 6 the competition will be played under lights across the Thursday and Friday to support the Brumbies in their mid-afternoon match against the Crusaders on Saturday.
