Some Gym Leaders also have secondary professions, such as Elesa being a fashion model, Valerie being a fashion designer, and Katy owning a bakery. Clement has the most personality of any character in Generation VI, hardly a surprise considering he was one of Ash's kalos gym leaders companions and got a lot of backstory and development.

Generation VI has many separate rivals that fans got to battle throughout the journey, but it also had a bunch of Gym Leaders that were full of character and had interesting traits. Players remember Gym Leaders such as Viola and Clement as some of the best the franchise has to offer, and their gyms were very interesting to traverse as well. With so many different Gym Leaders from Generation VI, it was surprising to see that they all had such unique and stunning personalities that stood out from previous Gym Leaders in the franchise. Ramos has very little going on in his life, at least as far as players are aware of based on his dialogue and other interactions that trainers have with him inside of the games. The one interesting thing about Ramos is that it seems that he enjoys gardening based on his gardening clippers and the fact that he seems to love plants in general.

His battles against the Kalos Gym Leaders introduce him to new battling strategies to use, the concept of Mega Evolution , and a new region full of tough opponents. Each and every Kalos Gym Leader takes him to the limit, producing some intense but entertaining showdowns. In the anime, Valerie is introduced in the episode "A Fashionable Battle" and is seen easily dispatching Sawyer's Bagon with her fast Spritzee, giving Ash plenty to think about ahead of his own challenge. When Ash eventually faces her, it is once again the Spritzee that causes the most problems, as it defeats Fletchinder after the Flying-type has defeated her Sylveon. In a 3-on-3 bout, Ramos's Jumpluff and Gogoat are taken out by Fletchinder and Frogadier respectively, but it's the clever use of his Weepinbell that helps Ramos knock out Ash's Fletchinder and Hawlucha before it falls to Frogadier.
