The Lieutenant was the second-in-command of the Equalists under Amon. He is an intense, disciplined fighter who augments his considerable skills with two electrified kali sticks powered by a generator on his back. No metalbender cop has been able to withstand his attacks. The Lieutenant spent the better part of his life looking up to Amon and fueling the Anti-bending Revolution. During his time with the Equalists, he proved to be a loyal and effective second-in-command, advising his leader in every step he made, while also making sure Team Avatar was kept at bay. However, he was left devastated when he discovered that Amon was secretly a bloodbender and attempted to attack him, but was promptly defeated by his former leader.

The Legend of Korra packed in plenty of of twists and turns, but some parts of the plot got lost in the mix. The Equalist movement that provided much of the first season's conflict fell to the wayside as the series continued, and along with it fell the second-in-command who could one day become their perfect leader: The Lieutenant. As The Legend of Korra continues in the comics , fans deserve to see the Equalist plotline picked back up, and the Lieutenant deserves to lead the charge. The Legend of Korra Season 1 made it clear that there were rising anti-bender sentiments throughout the culturally diverse metropolis of Republic City. While many benders saw it as a haven for unity and a celebration of what the Four Nations could accomplish together, much of the nonbending populace that made up the city's majority held a festering resentment that they were disempowered and disenfranchised. Governed by the United Republic Council that included in its membership a bender representative of every nation, at the time there was no voice to represent the citizens who could not wield the elements to their whim. That's where Amon stepped forward, rousing the rabble that became known as the Equalist Movement. Promising a new day forged from an anti-bending revolution, Amon told an all-too familiar story of how his own family were struck down by firebenders. Sharing much the same tragedy, the industrialist Hiroshi Sato pioneered technological innovations that empowered nonbenders with weapons to contend at last with their bending oppressors. And overlooking all of it from Amon's side was his trusted henchman-in-charge, the Lieutenant. Of course, the revolution Amon promised did not really end up panning out. The movement died at its head with the discovery that Amon was in truth a bender himself, a sinister bloodbender lying about his past and manipulating the sentiments of the city for his own gain. With Amon defeated, Hiroshi Sato imprisoned and political advancements made in the form of the democratically elected President Raiko, it seemed that the world of Avatar heard the last of the Equalists and the Lieutenant along with them. While a nonbending political leader free from tethers to any of the Four Nations was certainly an advancement, it goes without saying that the most radical political factions could hardly be appeased with the status quo so barely changed.
All of that loss and all of that pity could be worth it if the Lieutenant returned.

Created by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, The Legend of Korra is set in a fictional universe where people can manipulate or bend the four elements — fire, water, earth and air. Among those who possess bending abilities, only one person, also known as the Avatar, has the ability to bend all four elements. Since The Legend of Korra is a story ultimately about ideologies, many characters face conflict and die early in the series. Every death in The Legend of Korra had its own meaning, and contributed to the storyline for the entire series. While some of the characters chose death, others died while trying to live up to their own ideals and dignity. Tarrlok was introduced as a manipulative and ambitious politician. As a member of the United Republic Council, Tarrlok presented a likable personality to the general public but was extremely aggressive and corrupt when it came to achieving his goals. Tarrlok's past as the son of the infamous criminal, Yakone, was soon revealed and he met his downfall. While escaping the prison on a speedboat with his brother, Tarrlok committed suicide and also killed Amon. Leader of the anti-bender revolutionary group, the Equalists, Amon was one of the main antagonists at the beginning of the series.
