Where can I start? Still, after over whiskies tasted, my absolute favorite dram. I could go on and on about the grandeur of Lagavulin 16 year old. It is the reason, why I started my whisky tasting hobby. Whisky has been one of my favorite drinks ever since I got my first taste of it. But after Lagavulin 16YO, I started a quest for finding something that can top it. Whisky the cheap ones was just a great and rough way to get drunk.
Lagavulin 16 review
Average score from 88 reviews and ratings The Lagavulin 16 is such a quintessential malt that everyone should have in their bar cabinet. I already tasted several batches. Today there is one from in the glass, thanks to my good friend Pat who gave me another sample. Powerful and distinct nose on maritime elements that transport me straight to the south coast of Islay. Rocks in the surf, foam heads on the waves, kelp. This is perfectly accompanied by caramel, charred wood, vanilla and orange marmalade. And of course, that typical smokiness that characterizes Lagavulin so much. Tar and car tires. It caresses the taste buds with sweet notes of caramel, blood orange and even something of cocoa, while the salty notes translate to salmiak, tar and olives. The peat smoke is not dominant, but it is unmistakable and gives this malt warmth and weight. The finish is medium-long, sweet versus salty and slightly drying towards the end. This remains a winner, batch after batch. Okay, so I know around here overpeated, extra-smoky whiskies are more than appreciated, and I'm not going to say I dislike them or anything like that, but in my book and only mine drams shouldn't lean excessively towards any given direction, be it peat or sweet or mellow or booze or whatever.
Lagavulin year single malt whisky is made with malted barley from the largest town in Islay, and a six-minute drive from the distillery, the nearby Port Ellen.
Updated: Jul 11, Time for another dram! Being aged 16 years, this single-malt whisky is one of the smokiest you can find from the Islay region. The Lagavulin isn't my usual go-to whisky, and, as I said before, I'm not very fond of smokey peated whiskies, but I received this for my birthday so I had to give it a try. Did the one who gifted me this super peaty whisky know this before buying it, or did she know how I generally feel about them? Absolutely NOT and seeing her reaction was amazing! Watching her face go from 'I don't know what she'll think about it' to 'What have I done?!!!

Overwatch patch note
Now to be honest I am not a peat head. While I have been enjoying the final glasses, I've also occasionally been out and about and enjoyed a glass off a "fresher" bottle, since I'll often opt for Lagavulin or Talisker if it's on offer. The bottle I picked up about two months ago I would rate along the lines of , I have seen some talk about the drop in quality, and it is interesting that Ralfy reviewed the Finlaggan cask strength recently which is supposedly a variation of Lagavulin. Palate wise, the smoke gets brought out just slightly. Round and enveloping, but not as rich and complex as I would expect. I had been in the deep end of cask strength Islay whiskies for a while, and I feared that Lagavulin 16 would seem pale and watery when I came back to it this year. The finish is medium-long, sweet versus salty and slightly drying towards the end. The malted barley is peated in Glen Ord. I think this is a good whisky. The aromas reminded me of smoked salmon with something sweet in the background my wife identified it as barbecue.

Your tasting notes dovetail with my general impressions as well, to a large degree. This remains a winner, batch after batch. Everything seems to be in harmony—truly a balanced gem of an Islay malt. I finally got one , Ledaig, Westland, etc. The intensity of the peat here is gradually increasing. Home 16YO Lagavulin 16 year old review. When it comes to the smoke and peat, I prefer Talisker 18 these days. Smoke, briny, maritime qualities, smooth, just a hint of sweetness and a really long finish I could go on, but just pour me another! Thank you. The body is nice and oily, albiet thin. The Lagavulin 16 is a classic that should be in every single bar. Lagavulin 16YO and Trainspotting are amazing bits of Scottish craftsmanship and artisan spirit. Initially I thought it was because the bottle was new. A tiny splash of water tones down the smoke and reveals some sweet herbal, tarragon notes. Yes, it's still quite nice.
I apologise, but, in my opinion, you are mistaken. I can prove it. Write to me in PM, we will communicate.
Be mistaken.
It seems to me it is good idea. I agree with you.
