The Trust is committed to supporting priority causes by distributing funds to lower profile and largely underfunded organisations that have a positive impact on our neighbors. Our partners, sponsors and investors bring immense value to the Brisbane community through their support for our local grassroots charities and initiatives. Corporate investors, community groups and philanthropists can be confident donating to the Trust because of its ability to identify charities able to make a genuine impact where it is needed most. The due diligence and culture of strong governance that the Trust has, provides peace of mind for our investors. For over 70 years, the Trust has been supporting residents across Brisbane through our fundraising efforts, improving the wellbeing of the most marginalised and vulnerable members of the community. It marks one hundred years of listening to community need and driving change across Greater Melbourne. It was , and Melbourne was in the midst of a post-war economic downturn. And with no government funding afforded to hospitals at the time, access to healthcare quickly became the most pressing issue of the day. Donations from the community were pooled and grants were donated to hospitals across the city, so that better health services were available to all. The Fund even provided donors with expert advice about which causes to donate to — an early iteration of what we now call donor-advised giving. With the Great Depression looming large in the s, and the Spanish Flu barely receding from collective memory, the Foundation began in circumstances eerily similar to today. The things that keep occurring are economic downturn, disasters, and a crisis around access to healthcare. For LMCF, risk often brings great impact. The Foundation is known for its gutsy and innovative grant-making, often stepping in as the first or early funder.
