While the festive season brings a lot of joy , there is a bit of madness that can slip in too. Sitting within The Beaufort, the massive multi-venue space that opened earlier this year that quickly became the weekend go-to for people of all ages, Lotus is its more refined dining space. They were plump and so fresh, though personal preference, I would have loved the sauce to be slightly thicker. It had all of the bits and pieces to make it an amazing dish, but the sprouts were crunchy and undercooked. Service was very quick and friendly, and the food came out in great time too, despite how busy they were. A great spot for a special occasion lunch or dinner.

Lotus is the new modern Asian restaurant, one of multiple venues of The Beaufort; an entertainment precinct in the heart of Mt Lawley. The interior is elegant with an eye catching array of pendulum lights suspended from the ceiling. With its warm and inviting atmosphere, this is just the place you would want to hang out at with your friends, or on a date. Beef Massaman Curry is always a crowd pleaser and was the first dish we sampled. Served with rice, the beef was so tender it melted in the mouth, and the curry flavour was rich and deliciously creamy. We paired this with the Cape Mentelle Sauvignon Blanc Semillon whose fresh vibrant notes worked well with the rich creaminess of the curry. Our second dish was the Charred Broccoli with house satay, peanut crunch and Thai herb salad. This dish was beautiful. The bitterness of the broccoli balanced the sweetness from the satay, and the peanut crunch with the fresh herbs brought all the flavours and textures together in a powerful finish. This red wine created a creamy texture and flavour to the satay which was an unexpected pleasure. The Umai Snapper with shallots, peanut, yuzu, chilli, cauliflower and herb oil was my pick of the day. Yuzu is a Japanese citrus fruit that is sweet and zingy.

Opening this March, The Beaufort will deliver a similar multi-level, multi-venue vibe, complete with three levels of interconnecting indoor-outdoor terraces laced with loads of lush greenery, multiple bars, a dancefloor and a mouth-watering restaurant headed up by an acclaimed chef out of Melbourne. Start at the gastropub downstairs with some drinks and people watching in the outdoor beer garden right on the Beaufort Street strip. Then find your way up one of the winding staircases to Candy Bar, a breezy rooftop deck perfect for some snazzy sundowner cocktails. Of course, you can also find hot chips and more casual fare at the gastropub too. The new Beaufort development is the latest in a long list of revamps and openings along the once bustling strip. With the Old Synagogue team coming to the hood, we have a feeling is going to be a big year for Mount Lawley, so stay tuned for opening dates. Find the concealed entry and navigate past the Cyrillic projector to find this quirky cocktail bar and all its libations. Venture further and you may even find a hidden room inside this hidden bar.
