Surge runs an Electric-type Gym. Calling this a puzzle is being generous, as it's mostly luck based. The idea is that you search the trash cans for electric locks, and you have to find two in succession to open the doors to Lt. Once you find the first one, the second one is supposed to appear in any adjacent trash can, even one you might have already searched. If you search a trash can that doesn't contain the second switch, then the puzzle is reset and the position of the first switch is randomly determined again. Due to some coding issues, the puzzle doesn't quite function as intended.

Vermilion City and the Lt. Surge Gym battle are your next stops after Route 6 , but you'll need to do a couple of things - including finding the Vermilion City Gym puzzle solution first if you want to progress.
