The inspiration from the business coincided with a few things, all of which were brought together by the pandemic. My housemates at the time were all pursuing different creative outlets as well; sculpture, jewellery making, and photography - to name a few - and I found myself wanting to express myself in my own way, which was always through colour and aesthetics. So, I began making cookies which eventually turned into making cookies and cakes. Where do you find the inspiration for the flavours and designs of your cakes? She went on to open her first commercial kitchen and shopfront in Thornbury, before bringing her Asian-inspired cakes and sweets closer to the city in Fitzroy. The menu here changes monthly, but offerings have included a matcha chiffon roll filled with sake-soaked cherries and white chocolate cream, a Thai tea custard tart, a small brioche treat filled with chocolate custard and, of course, a variety of layer cakes by the slice. They are just up the road from our cake studio and in my humble opinion make the best coffee in Melbourne. My local is definitely Lasagne. Their lasagne is juicy, cheesy, and just so satisfying. Great wine list and cocktails with a cool cosy atmosphere. The music selection is always on point and if you go on a Sunday night you can be serenaded by Josh Kelly and his live jazz trio while you soak up lasagne sauce with your garlic bread.
