Watched kitchen nightmares on YouTube around noon then rushed over to Brooklyn to get a pie, man oh man- best in the borough. Owner is such a nice guy.
John joined the family business when he was 14 and by the time he took over they had expanded, buying the restaurant next door. John does not understand the changing demographic of the community and has not moved with the times. Fabio tells him that the sign was ripped by John and he was currently next door in the pizzeria. John tells Gordon the history of the place and that they are struggling because they are not busy enough due to increased competition. Server Fran brings the desserts to the table, one of the cakes is mouldy but this is explained to be okay as they are just for display. Fabio tries to defend the products; that it is just for display and they are not served to customers.

Reality TV Updates. The two are totally connected, which is a bit of a unique situation as far as Kitchen Nightmares goes. Gordon is disappointed to learn that they make the pasta fresh, but then freeze it immediately to use another day. The spaghetti meatballs arrive next and Gordon can once again tell that the meatballs have been frozen without even sampling the food, as the meatballs are very dry and spongy. Like — stick a napkin on it to soak up the grease, levels of greasy. Remember doing that in middle school? I know I did. John has to call an ambulance because the sick diner is not getting better, making other diners very uncomfortable and resulting in John shutting the restaurant down for the night. The next day Gordon inspected the freezers and found a lot of frozen food, buckets of frozen pasta, and meat and sauce covered in mold and freezer burn. Nothing in the freezer is dated or labeled and with some items it is impossible to guess what they ever were. The next day Gordon reveals the first change he has made to the awning out front by replacing it with a bold and modern new sign. Gordon has also made changes to the menu by replacing it with a new menu that includes smaller dishes using fresher ingredients. The night of relaunch was a total success and all the diners loved the ambience and the taste of the new food.
Pros The dough is unreal.

Starting out the episode, Chef Ramsay notices that the front sign is wrecked with plenty of holes in the lettering. He then meets with the manager, who states the owner cut out the letters as he noticed that they were wearing away, which is an odd choice. Going next door to the pizzeria, John meets Ramsay and states he always works front counter and making pizza. John, when asked about both establishments, says they are both for his mother and father respectively, and that the main problem is a downturn in customers. When given a menu, he orders the tortellini, spaghetti and a Margherita dish. He is then met with a dessert waitress who shows him his options, which features an exceptionally moldy small cake, which is more suited to developing antibiotics than it is being served.

From the moment you step through the door, Mama Maria's wraps you in a warm embrace of aromas that can only be described Probably one of the better episodes that I have watched. The dough is unreal. It's crispy and delicious!! The pizza place next door is great and owned by the same family. Gordon argues that may have been the case in the 80s but in the s standards have risen and things have changed. But if something has changed I will definitely update the post. The best part of the meal was the shredded cheese that melted on contact with the pasta, it was heavenly. Maybe the place is cleaner. I just felt so sorry for the lovely owner and his story and losing both his parents so close together. Pros The dough is unreal.
