Mama Maria's is a restaurant attached to an established and successful pizzeria called Sal's. John has taken over both from his parents, who ran them successfully. Their deaths have left John in charge, but John wonders where all the customers have gone. He swears he hasn't changed anything. The staff say that John doesn't venture outside his comfort zone too much, so he mostly sticks to making pizzas at Sal's. John has four children and they all frolic around the restaurant, which the staff say is a bad look. The staff say the neighborhood has changed, and Fabio says the old way hasn't worked in at least 20 years. John knows he's failing, but refuses to let his parents' dream die. Gordon walks up and finds the sign in disrepair, which he learns is intentional from Fabio who greets him. He seems even more stunned to hear that there's two places in one and that John is at Sal's. Gordon goes to meet John. Gordon can't believe John regularly makes the pizzas.
I just felt so sorry for the lovely owner and his story and losing both his parents so close together. John is mama marias brooklyn by this, and takes a shot of vodka.

Very busy place. Strongly recommend reservations well ahead of time. We were seated in a second floor dining room. Our server was Fabricio - he made it an excellent evening. Great guy. Food selection was incredible. Everything on the menu looked delicious. Our food came Wine menu had something for every budget. They had Amaro desert wines- so delcicious.

They were open in , and closed 66 years later. Jean's Southern Cuisine. I went there in February and it was awful. I don't know that I like him that much, but I can sympathize for him to some degree at least. I came for authentic Italian food which this place does not make…the waiter is very, very nice but insincere. I walked into the restaurant and walked around for at least 5 minutes. Maybe the place is cleaner. What does surprise him is the sheer amount of freezers there are, and how old some of the food must be, not to mention the condition it's all in. Hope you have a better life going forward! John says they've always done it that way, but Gordon opines that maybe there was a time they got away with that, but not anymore. If I ever make it to Brooklyn I will definitely be stopping there! The next day Gordon inspected the freezers and found a lot of frozen food, buckets of frozen pasta, and meat and sauce covered in mold and freezer burn.
