When it comes to vintage audio equipment, few models can hold a candle to the popularity and enduring appeal of the Marantz stereo receiver. Designed by the legendary audio engineer Sid Smith, the Marantz embodied the spirit of the s audio technology. It was well-regarded for its perfect blend of power, performance, and a strikingly beautiful design, hallmarked by the famous Marantz blue dial. The Marantz offered a robust 70 watts per channel into 8 ohms, which was quite impressive for its time. It had the capability to power most speakers of the era and even many modern speakers. Sound-wise, the Marantz was lauded for its warm, almost tube-like sound, a characteristic trait of Marantz receivers. It had a rich, detailed sound staging, and its ability to render the midrange frequencies was especially noteworthy. The bass was decent, though not as punchy as some of the more modern systems.

This is the classic Marantz receiver in a beautiful wood case. Anyone familiar with vintage audio knows that Marantz built some of the best receivers of the time. And, actually, when restored, probably still stand up against the best out on the market today in terms of sound quality.

Can only compare it beside a , , and here. It has gone from owner to owner and has been used in so many different ways. Now the question becomes what is good enough to satisfy you? Hardly a fair comparrison, as the Marantz's components are half a century old, is it worth the cost of renovating though? I suspect, as others have said that the Marantz will likely perform better after some service. Seems to be lacking punch. If it was mine, I'd invest the money in a full restoration. I enjoy the sound fine, so I figured I'd be blown away with the Now to resurrect and service the old TT and get the vinyl out of storage. Stereo Receivers.

My first vintage audio purchase was a Marantz receiver. People always seem impressed that I own a Marantz and even though I enjoy owning one, there are things people should consider before spending a lot of money on one. In this article, I will discuss the features I like about the Marantz but also point out some of the common pains that come with owning one.

Have a great and happy , I know once this is fixed mine will be. Lovin' it already. The sound was "soft" but the receiver was still very robust, potentiometers needed cleaning again and I could tell I had some capacitor problems as the performance varied during the day. There is the tiniest bit of white noise floor when the amp is turned up. I picked up a recently and the sound is excellent. I would also suggest visiting a specialty audio store and listening to various systems, if there is an audio club in your area attend a gathering to hear other people's systems, or if there are AKers in your area perhaps one of them would be willing to play their system and give you some alternate experiences to draw upon. I just re-acquired my old Marantz that I used as a teenager. Now it sounds great, looks great. Perhaps it is indeed a refurbished Marantz receiver, and the receivers do fit a certain lifestyle profile. Just terrible on stereo stuff. There may be some noisy transistors as well, causing the noise you hear. Replies 2 Views Submitted by lapensek on September 8th, Stereo Receivers.
