The Liverpool man is required to report to Narellan Police Station three days a week, surrender his passport, not approach or be within metres of Sydney International Airport or other international departure points, and be fitted with an electronic monitoring system at his own expense. Police said emergency services were called to the Mobil petrol station in Coolac following reports of a fire about 10 pm on 5 September. More than 30 firefighters from across the Riverina worked to contain the inferno that destroyed the Mobil service station at Coolac in September. Despite the efforts of the firefighters, the property was extensively damaged.

An Australian man arrested with a pistol and 96 rounds in his bag at Samui airport in Surat Thani province told police he bought the firearm for self defence from a Thai on Koh Samui. Mark Bassal, 41, who has an Australian passport, was arrested at the island's airport in tambon Bophut around 1pm on Wednesday, Pol Col Suparuek Phankosol, superintendent of Surat Thani immigration police, said on Thursday. He was detained after an X-ray showed parts of a disassembled gun-like object in some of the seven bags he and his family were carrying. Immigration officers and local police arrested Mr Bassal and charged him with illegal possession of firearm parts and ammunition. They seized the gun parts and 96 cartridges. During questioning, Mr Bassal allegedly said he bought the pistol and ammunition from a Thai man at a shop in tambon Bophut on Koh Samui. He said it was for self-defence while travelling. He was handed over to Bophut police station for legal action. Pol Col Suparuek said police were still questioning the man, who was travelling with his wife and their three children. Police said the family might have intended to travel to Singapore and Australia, but they had not yet found tickets to those destinations. At this stage, police investigators had not found any evidence that the suspect would use the weapon to commit a crime, nor was he a criminal or transnational mafia figure, Pol Col Suparuek said. Mark Bassal faced Picton Local Court on Wednesday 6 December , charged with destroying or damaging property by fire and had his bail formally refused by Magistrate David Degnan. Police said emergency services were called to the Mobil petrol station in Coolac following reports of a fire at about 10 pm on 5 September. Despite the efforts of the firefighters, the property was extensively damaged. There were no reports of injuries.
The family of the shooting victim of Monday's deadly siege in Sydney claims he and his brothers went to Inline National Signage to sort out a business dispute. Brothers Michael, Terry and Mark Bassal had arranged a meeting with Wayne Williams at the Ingleburn business just before 11am yesterday because of an unfinished sign order for their construction business, according to a statement from the Bassal family's lawyer. An Australian man travelling with his family in Southeast Asia was allegedly caught with a gun inside his luggage during a routine baggage check at the airport. The year-old Sydneysider, identified by authorities as Mark Bassal, was on holiday in Thailand with his wife and three children when he allegedly tried boarding a plane last Wednesday with a handgun and 96 rounds of ammunition, local police said, the Thai Examiner reported. When trying to board the plane from Ko Samui Airport to Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bankok, an X-ray of the family's luggage allegedly revealed the illegal possessions , and police officers were called. Mr Bassal claimed to officers that he bought the firearm from a shop in Ko Samui for personal use, believing it to be legal. According to the Bangkok Post, he purchased it for self defence while travelling. The father also told authorities the family was flying to Singapore from Bangkok, and then returning to Sydney, however no flights were found to be booked after Bangkok, local media reports. After being taken into custody and transferred to a police station on the island, Mr Bassal was reportedly given bail, and is to attend court at a later date after being charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. According to local media, police believe the Sydney man does not have a criminal background and didn't buy the gun to commit an offence in Thailand. Both the gun and ammunition has since been seized.
