En Dwi Gast is the ruler of Sakaar and a being with a fascination with gaming and manipulating lesser life-forms. Becoming stranded on the planet, he took the mantel of the flamboyant Grandmaster , establishing a dictatorship over its citizens and keeping them distracted with a series of battles among some of his strongest slaves called the Contest of Champions. When Grandmaster took Thor as his new contender, he was soon horrified to learn that Thor already knew his current champion, Hulk. As Grandmaster feared, Thor soon escaped Sakaar with Hulk, resulting in a new uprising which resulted in him losing his position over the people of Sakaar. En Dwi Gast was born shortly after the beginning of the universe alongside his brother, Taneleer Tivan.

Thor: Ragnarok portrays the Grandmaster as a comically hedonistic dictator of the trash planet Sakaar, but in the comic universe, there is so much more to him than gladiator games and public executions with his melt stick. The Grandmaster - also known as En Dwi Gast - has more than a few tricks up his sleeve, and one of them is his power over death itself.
