Can someone point me the right direction as to where to find it. This is the issue I am having, when fog lights are on, and I hit high beams, most cars I have driven turn the fogs off as to not totally blind other drivers. In my E, the high beam lamp comes on, sticks, and the left rear brake light burns a fuse. I checked the socket to the the rear lamp, and the wiring harness, all come back ok. Bulb is fine, even switched it with RH lamp just for fun. The 10 fuse blows with this issue.
So, my conclusion, please correct me if I am off, is the HCM is defective. Page may mercedes headlight control module affiliate links. This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread.

My driver's side headlight fails after a few minutes and I get the "adaptive headlight inoperative" message. I swapped the bulb with the passenger side and the problem stayed with the driver's side. I ordered a new Hella control module and the unit came with a document that says that before putting it into service "it is necessary to install software and afterwards carry out coding by an appropriate diagnostic tester". Since the car is already set up for HID, is programming the ballast necessary?

A session on STAR would be recommended before disassembly of the headlamp. I assume this is for a E as specified in your info. When I scan for any faults I get a fault code saying excess voltage at headlight adjustment. You must log in or register to reply here. STAR is used to set the zero position for the auto-levelling and will also interrogate the headlamps systems in general, to a far greater extent than generic code readers.
