The annual deer patch design contest is open to everyone and takes place in the spring. Artists are asked to submit their original work showing deer or deer hunting in Michigan.

To me they don't seem as collectable as the ones I obtained during my last 50 plus years of hunting. Seems low again this year. Apparently most don't realize the DNR sells them, or they don't want to wait 10 days to get one. It's a purchased patch not a successful hunter patch anymore so it's not the same to me. I used to enjoy going to the local check station. Oh well. Submitted the head and got a free patch. That's me! A Deer Management Cooperator.

This is an option that has been requested over the years, particularly by hunters who had to travel longer distances to get to a deer check station. Historically, hunters who brought their harvested deer into a DNR deer check station received a patch in exchange for the biological data collected by DNR staff.
