At Messner's home he was shocked to learn that three days earlier his friend had hung himself.

Real time games are a coin flip. They're either superb and you can't stop playing them, or reviled and no one even wants to talk about them. Find out where 5-Minute Mystery falls! Now, it's on you and your friends to work cooperatively to find the "macguffin" before the time runs out. Which despite the name, could be anywhere between five to ten minutes. Already, 5-Minute Mystery had me chuckling, partly through the absurdity of the situation and the comedic artwork. But it goes a bit deeper by referencing the macguffin; a classic genre convention in murder mystery. The game tastes like a twisted cocktail of two parts Where's Waldo, one part Guess Who, and a dash of whiskey. A drink fitting of Phillip Marlowe. First thing you'll need to do is find clues by scanning picture cards, or crime scenes, for hidden symbols. In each picture there are five different shapes: star, cross, circle, square and triangle. Then you get to play with one of the most satisfying board game components I've played with: The Codex.

Attempt to solve crimes in record time with the newly-announced entry to the 5-Minute series, 5-Minute Mystery. Each game revolves around solving a theft committed within the Museum of Everything by one of the possible animal suspects, whose identity must be determined by collecting the right clues and narrowing down possible options. During the game players work together to find a variety of symbols hidden within the images printed on the museum room cards, whilst another player takes control of the codex. If players are right then they can take a clue tile from the top of the stack and reveal what knowledge it contains about their suspect. For example, if the clue tile is a pearl necklace and the barcode directly matches with the culprit tile, then players can assume that the wrong-doer in play does have said necklace. This whole process then repeats until players have reduced their suspects down to one, leaving them to accuse the remaining character.

The museum exhibit is set to open in 5 minutes, but somebody has stolen the MacGuffin? Work together to find the culprit before time runs out! In Reaping the Rewards, I take a look at the finished product from a crowdfunding campaign. This review is adapted from my Kickstarter Tabletop Alert to show the finished game. The components all look great: the illustrations of the suspects and scenes are terrific, done in a cartoony style. But perhaps the most impressive component is the codex: a plastic cylinder with five rotating dials. Each dial has a particular symbol square, triangle, circle, cross, star in five different variations, along with one blank face.

I have been trying to come up with some little stocking stuffer types of things lately. Things that could actually be fun to get, rather than simply added into the nut bowl or the fruit drawer in the refrigerator. I probably could benefit from having some of these Tangles by my television chair… Instead, I cross stitch while watching television. Another idea came to me the other day while going through a box of things my grown daughter no longer needs… She had a copy of Almost Perfect Crimes by Hy Conrad. It is a book of "Mini-Mysteries for You to Solve. I am still trying to come up with ideas for small gifts… but am sort of at a standstill. Do any of you have really good "stocking stuffer" types of ideas for any age group? If so, please send me a comment….
