A few months ago, manufacturer Grandluxe sent me a few sketchbooks to review.

Allegedly, this is a soft sketch book, and technically speaking yes, this is a soft, not hard cover on this book, but you will not find a stiffer notebook for your dollar without falling down a rabbit hole of double entendres. How am I supposed to use a notebook I can barely even open? Step one, crack this book like a winter walnut. I like the texture of this cover, and the size of the notebook. This is a very thick elastic band.

But maybe that's how Grandluxe differentiate themselves from all the other non-perforated sketchbooks out there, or even its own Sketch Pads. It was when I flipped through the papers that I fell in love with it. From inside, then I went on to the cover, I love everything about it; the gsm Italian acid free drawing paper, the ribbon bookmarker, the black PU-flexi cover with round corners, and the elastic band closure. I knew I just had to have it. Paid SGD26 for it. I was in Singapore at that time.

The folks at GrandLuxe sent me a whole heaping pile of their new Monologue journals. I received four A6 5. Even from the edges, you can see there are slight variations in each book to suit lots of personal preferences. The red A6-sized has pages that are undersized to accommodate a golf-sized pencil tucked in under the edge for the cover with an elastic to hold it securely. The bottom two books have elastic loops to hold a writing tool. The orange book in the middle is a flip-top reporter-style sketchbook.

The only thing I did not care for is the perforation for the pages, and for that reason, I would recommend the Monologue Sketch Pad instead. Fabulous A6 by the way. It works for me because I can rest my hand on the left side of the pages to draw, and it keeps the book open. For that reason, I leave blank pages behind my sketches.
