After my previous attempt of earthquake sensor on DIY Earthquake Sensor , decided to go on with a more detailed and stable one. Since i have a couple of these M5StickC units, decided to work on those. Going from MPU accelerometer to MPU brought its drawbacks like noise, however i did my best on the calibration part. It also measurs the intensity in terms of g for PGA. You can find the details in the SeisoM5 Github page.

With this code, the value of each sensor while still is not 0. I tried adding derivative sensor on HA hoping that if the value changes from 0, it will trigger, but with the following automation it will only do the actions after movements stopped. Another downside of derivative sensor AFAIK is that if the sensor is not going back to initial position, the value will offset. Taping a mpu sensor on a wall in your house will be basically useless. Vibrations that pass through your walls could come from inside the house from all knds of sources like kids running around, something falling on the floor, loud music, or from the weather outside. This is why earthquakes are monitored from ground sensors in very remote areas and are burried several feet below ground level. A google search might be a good place to start too. The thing is, I live in a third-world country where a national earthquake alert system is nonexistent. Perhaps, raising malitias and rooting out corruption and criminal organizations who steal tide buoys and keep these places in the third world, that would be a good starting place. You do realize this is how we all find out about quakes?

The purpose of this project is to make the precedent of an easy to use earthquake detector which can easily and safely be installed in any household for little cost while giving accurate details as well as the potential for scalability and upgrades. The accelerometer is a tool which measures the rate of change of velocity which is what accelerometer means in its own rest frame. The gyroscope, however, measures the rational velocity which is the change of the angular position over time along the XYZ axis roll, pitch and yaw. An earthquake manifests by displacing and disrupting the ground, which causes seismic waves on the planet surface. Because of this, earthquakes will make objects have spontaneous and fast movements.

Our project is a small effort to overcome the loss which occurs due to the earthquake. This detector can detect the minor shocks and alarm you to evacuate to a safe place. The most important component of this detector is MPU module which we will talk later. Arduino is the brain of this detector, LCD is used to display message and Led and buzzer is used as indicators. The Arduino first of all initialize MPU Check the sleep mode and a clock signal from module then started reading the values. If the values are normal then it does nothing.
