Natsu is a lean, muscular young man of average height with a slightly tan skin tone, black eyes, spiky pink-colored hair, and has abnormal sharp canines; Natsu has a scar on the right side of his neck, hidden by his scarf. Despite evidence that even Mashima thought NaLu was a far sturdier ship than NaLi, it never really sailed. Natsu continues wearing Igneel's scarf and retains the same lower clothing. If there is one thing Fairy Tail fans cannot stand, it is an open ending. Over the years, the series left followers with more questions than answers, but its final chapter managed to address many of them. Still, one huge hole was left open, leaving fans to agonize over the state of their favorite ship.

Not even the skirt-chasing Sanji Vinsmoke got a solid romance outside some wholesome moments with the villain-turned-ally Charlotte Pudding. Lucy, then gets touched by this but then gets annoyed and angry when Natsu and Happy ask for food, which makes Lucy kick them out. After that touching answer, Natsu states that she is one of them and that she doesn't have to leave. Natsu becomes speechless in fear when Gouman explains the truth about the method, and screams in terror when Gouman prepares the torture. On the way, Lucy asks Natsu how they will find any information on Gray at Sabertooth.
