NH Round Baler. Welcome Guest, Log in or Register. James Howell Report to Moderator. How much horsepower is needed to use a New Holland round baler? Thanks to everyone for all the information and photo. Going by the manual for a NH it says HP. I use an Oliver Super 88 to pull my and it does well.

By oleman March 4, in General Chat. It will bale almost anything. If you are premium hay with alfalfa there tend to be more leaves lost with it. The one I rented a Diesel is not even close enough to be able to run it in the hills. As mentioned, it will bale about anything. The only thing ours won't bale is really dry straw, several times we had to bale in the early morning when the dew was on. We have baled thousands and thousands of bales of baleage with ours plus a fair amount of dry hay. It has been very reliable. I would not be afraid of it at all. LOTS of em still going strong in my area. Ive always been told they are bullet proof. I ran a which is the same pickup design without the mega wide and it was great. Sold it with 15k bales going strong. Sometimes the pickups can get expensive if they ran it with a roller bearing out too long. They cam over in a track and when ran too long they eat tracks etc.

I guess the baler could or would not "talk" to the tractor so they were both mad at each other? Posted March 6,

I have one and it has worked well for me. Maybe this will have no bearing on your question, but how heavy is your tractor? Im not opposed to any brand but New Holland and John Deere dealers are the closest to our farm. Just builds up on the pickup. But, when I put the horse tractor on it, things just really work so much better. And, as long as you put enough string on them, they hold their shape well. Found this small round baler for the price for a square bayer. Our first round baler was a Only one digit different from my but quite a different looking baler. I've re-inforced and welded them when they break.
