Dynamical models predict the MJO to rapidly propagate eastward into the Western Pacific Ocean during the next two weeks. Dynamical models are in relatively good agreement in predicting a mid-level ridge and associated positive hPa height anomalies over the northeastern Pacific and parts of western North America. An amplified positive hPa height anomaly is centered over the Labrador Sea in model forecasts, consistent with a negative phase of the AO. The manual blend of hPa height forecasts, from dynamical models and the MLR statistical model, indicates weaker anomalies than the individual models, due to uncertainties and differences among model forecasts. Above normal temperatures are favored over most of Alaska, under positive hPa height anomalies, with probabilities exceeding 60 percent over southeastern areas of the state, ahead of predicted southwesterly flow. Equal chances EC of above and below normal temperatures is indicated over the northwestern coast, where flow is northeasterly to the southeast of a positive hPa height anomaly over northern Siberia and the Arctic Ocean in model forecasts. Above normal temperatures are likely for the western CONUS, with probabilities exceeding 70 percent for much of the Pacific Northwest, under the predicted ridge. Probabilities are lower over eastern areas of the Northern Plains where there is a potential for intrusion of colder air from Canada with a trough over the East. Below normal temperatures are slightly favored from the Southern Plains across the Southeast, consistent with the manual blend temperature forecast tool. Above median precipitation is favored for southeastern Mainland Alaska and the northern Alaska Panhandle, with predicted southwesterly flow into the region. Below median precipitation is likely for much of the Pacific Northwest, from San Francisco up the Pacific Coast and east into the Northern Rockies, under a predicted ridge. Below median precipitation is also favored from the Northern Plains into the western Great Lakes region under anomalous northerly flow in most model forecasts. Above median precipitation is likely for the southeastern CONUS, with probabilities exceeding 60 percent in some areas, where dynamical model forecasts show a strong precipitation signal.
