It's overwhelming to be inundated with so many options, and I remember feeling scared as I scoured through a seemingly infinite number of college websites.

Yet, no matter the extent of my research, I could not have fully grasped the energy of the NU campus and the vibrancy of the student body until visiting it myself. My biggest surprise was that despite its rank as 10 in Best National Colleges by US News and World Report and it's highly-selective acceptance rate of 9 percent, when talking to NU community members, the best part of the school surprisingly has little to do with the academic prestige of the so widely-regarded institution. When speaking to several NU students, one of whom was a theater major , Northwestern's large emphasis on their various arts programs was evident. For me, a person who is not particularly interested in the arts, all of this was interesting but not a selling point. This grants students a sort of elasticity when it comes to their majors. As someone who is interested in a multitude of professions, subjects, and topics, the quarter system is very appealing to me. It's also important to me to choose a college where I will be surrounded by like-minded individuals who enjoy pushing themselves academically.
