Here we look at the range's flagship head, the CRH…. For some time now there's been an obvious gap in Orange's catalogue where more affordable amps with gig-friendly power ratings might sit.
World renowned for their valve powered amplifiers, the tone obsessives at Orange have put a huge amount of time into research and development and took their time creating a high powered solid-state amp worthy to wear the Orange brand name! Orange are calling it the analogue solid-state equivalent to the Rockerverb and it's not hard to see why! The fully styled CR60 guitar amp has two channels clean and dirty, with the dirt channel offering up the classic lush Orange distortion that cleans up beautifully as you roll back the guitar's volume control! The new high power Crush range heralds a new dawn for Orange Amplifiers. The reason it has taken so long? We have yet to be happy with the sound, that is, until now. Orange have spent years researching, developing and testing a solid-state amplifier which they are truly proud of. The Orange design team felt it was important to keep these amplifiers simple and not bombard the player with hundreds of on board features.

For those who prefer a head and cab setup, the CRH takes the same features and Watt output stage as the CRC and puts it in a lightweight head format. The reason it has taken so long? Like with all our amplifiers, the look had to be right, the Crush exhibit the same features as their valve based brothers which includes Orange basket-weave Tolex, woven speaker grille, beading, hieroglyphs and of course the Orange signature picture frame edging. Found 0 artists. The dirty channel is fantastic, and the gain range is very wide, and well tuned. This head does just that, its solid state so its lighter, straight to the point, and solid. The result is an analogue, solid-state, two channel dirty and clean amplifier based on the prestigious Rockerverb range. If it's half as good as everybody says i'll be thrilled. It is a solid state version of the Rockerverb essentialy. Channel switching and reverb can both be triggered remotely via single latching footswitch sockets on the rear panel. That kind of sealed the deal for me.
What's not to love?! When it comes to Orange amps, their reputation is pretty grand. They know how to make some of the best contemporary models around, but can also offer up solid-state designs, too.
