Oxygen not included best insulation
Here's a great example of the different elements from Brothgar's Insulated Tile Video. Your dupes have needs! Maintaining a workable temperature is crucial to keeping your dupes happy, healthy, and most importantly productive. But what will you make them out of?
With the advent of the new thermal properties and the ability to view correct thermal properties of insulated tiles, I decided to test which materials were best for making insulated tiles from. The answer is If you just want to insulate your base from external heat, or prevent heat from escaping a moderately warm area e. When working with anything between o C and o C, use any material you have easily available for a single wall of insulated tile, and it should function fine. Double the wall if you want better. Anything above or below that temperature, use abyssalite insulated tiles, as you're most likely working with steam, volcanoes, or coolant. For high pressure and moderate temperature ranges, use granite or double thickness igneous rock insulated tiles.

The wiki is the community. Take part and make your opinion known by April 15th in this question. Insulite not to be confused with Insulated Tile is an advanced building material to prevent heat transfer in the base. Tiles made out of Insulite are equivalent to natural Abyssalite , while Insulated Tiles are even better. Due to naturally low Thermal Conductivity already times lower than "insulated" ceramic , and hundreds times lower of any closest material , using regular pipes and tiles might seem more economical.

Igneous rock is arguably the best material to make insulated tiles in the early game. How to Get Igneous Rock: Igneous rock is available from the start. Find it in the Temperate, Frozen, Caustic, and Oil biomes.

Of the various metals you may have access to early on, aluminium is likely to have the best thermal conductivity. Earn rewards. Starting a new base is no light decision. If you have a hot biome next to your base, you can minimize temperature transfer by building a wall of insulated tiles between the hot biome and your base. Metal tiles are an excellent way to improve temperature transfer. So thermal conductivity is a measure of how quickly it will heat up or cool down, and specific heat capacity is a measure of how much heat or chill it can store. Oxygen Not Included Wiki Explore.

When you are comfortable enough with them, the next step is to also think about what material you build those tiles out of. I still would recommend against making high pressure liquid storage, because it has a possibility of being patched, and it's really easy to screw up with disastrous consequences. The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic. When designing for temperature transfer, I think of good thermal conductivity as an important aspect and a good specific heat capacity as a nice bonus. Hot Lava.
