Advertiser Disclosure. In order for the engine to run smoothly and efficiently, it has to know exactly what positions the camshaft and crankshaft are in their rotation. If the Engine Control Module ECM detects that the bank 2 intake camshaft and crankshaft are not in the correct position, it will trigger code P With a cam or crank position sensor fault, the first step is to get it diagnosed to figure out what is causing the problem. P can be caused by anything from a stretched timing belt or chain to a bad sensor to dirty oil. Many, if not most, shops will apply this diagnosis fee to any required repairs if you have them perform the repairs for you. The engine oil level should be within operating range. During the replacement of these phasers use a wrench on the camshaft hex features to hold the shafts while removing and torqueing the camshaft bolts. Each tooth is evenly spaced 6 degrees apart, except for the reference gap. Command the CMP actuator to 20 degrees.
