P and intermittent rough idle. Thread Tools. Hi, My friend just bought a F 5. Most of the time it runs great, but sometimes when you stop the truck the idle will drop down and the truck sounds like it is going to die but so far it hasn't actually died, it starts knocking really badly and runs very rough. If you let it keep running like that it sets P If you rev the truck up it cleans up and sounds fine again and it will even drop back down to a clean idle most of the time.

The error code P signals that there is a problem with the circuit of the camshaft position sensor. This sensor determines the rotational speed and the camshaft position , and then it sends this information to the PCM. With this information, the PCM synchronizes the timing of the fuel injection with the timing of the ignition system the spark. When the signal between the sensor and the PCM is interrupted, this synchronization fails and the engine may behave erratically. Search your problem. Search Log in Sign up. What else should I check? When you first get in the vehicle p0340 ford f150 will start and run fine for 8 to 12 seconds then die as the check engine lig….
I was doing some other work at this shop as they were swapping the motor out in this F When they got done they had a p Bank 1 Cam code, This is a complete rebuilt Jasper motor. They double checked everything they had done several times and asked me to look at it. I saw it had new pigtails on the bank 1 and bank 2 cam sensors, they state were there before they got the vehicle. I checked grounds and signals coming out of the sensors, Put my scope on both sensors, and crank sensor. I show up today to do the security for the PCM, and after keys are learned I checked codes and P and P are pending on start up.
P and P with some helpful information about camshaft position sensors. Thread Tools. Received 1 Like on 1 Post. Sparkplugs looked pretty bad. Replaced with new plugs. Ohmed primary and secondary coils of each coil pack, all were within specification. Vehicle ran better. No misfire codes but will still run rough. When it is running rough it is pretty harmonic and seems like a dead miss. There are two camshaft position sensors on this variable cam timing motor.

The FordF is a quite popular pickup truck. One of its most impressive features is its PCM which can allow you to diagnose problems with your powertrain and attempt to fix any issues that might arise. However, the codes used to diagnose these problems may seem unfamiliar and perplexing at first glance. One of the most common codes that end up confusing many drivers is the p code. The P code is a generic powertrain code just like the P Ford F What this means is that this code points toward a general area within which the problem might be located in. Unlike other codes, it does not specifically tell you where or what the problem is. It merely points towards a specific area. As you can see, due to the p being a generic power code, it ends up confusing many drivers on what the actual problem is. As a result, if you do not have some knowledge of automobiles, you will usually be unable to diagnose the issue with your Ford pickup truck properly.

Any idea on how to test the sensor? It started up ok, but didn't run very well. Bank 1 is the passenger side, Ford thinks of everything related to the drivers seat in the truck. I didn't do an in cylinder because if they were off I'd see it on the cam timing. I would do the solenoids first. FTE Mom. Advanced Search. My son is going through the same thing with his '05 F 5. OBDI has power but will not send codes. Load test the wires, verify continuity, even unplugging coils 2 at a time to see if there was some noise that was interfering with things since i saw a mild triple strike in the waverform.
One of the more common engine management trouble codes that can occur in the Ford F is P P is related to the camshaft position sensor and points to an issue with the wiring harness connected to the sensor. This error can arise from a failure, defect, or malfunction in the control, signal, or reference voltage circuit s of the position sensor connected to the intake camshaft.

Just installed two new fuel pumps, dual tanks, trying to fix the problem did not work. Truck is running just fine in limp mode, just hate to see that dame CEL on. Yes, really. So happens.
