Although it is a generic code, the specific repair steps may vary depending on the year, make, model, and powertrain configuration of the vehicle. When a code P is stored, it indicates that the powertrain control module PCM has detected an abnormality in the relay that supplies it with voltage. In this case, the relay sensor circuit is open, which can be interpreted as disconnected. It is a contact type relay that is activated by a signal wire from the ignition switch. This type of relay typically has a five-wire design. One wire carries constant battery voltage, another wire is for ground, a third wire carries a signal from the ignition switch, a fourth wire supplies voltage to the PCM, and the fifth wire is the power relay sense circuit.

Ok, so my intrepid is stumping me hard on this. It will crank and start perfectly fine. Shut it off, sit for a sec, crank and crank. Key off and back on, starts hard but runs perfect. Then it will start fine a few times. I had this issue before vacation, and coming back I jumped in it and it fired right up no hesitation. I moved it and it started right up, this morning, and all it would do is crank. Beat me to death to swap out the crank sensor. I swapped in one I pulled from the yard. Then nothing. Please help!!!! Let me know your thoughts Sensors that went in, sounds like both are used. Are they known OEM sensors and known good sensors?

P is a relatively rare OBD2 trouble code. This includes the Chrysler PT Cruiser. If your PT Cruiser is still running with this code, we strongly recommend against driving with it. If the PCM power relay fails, your vehicle will not run properly. They stand for engine control module and powertrain control module, respectfully. An open circuit is a circuit that has not been completed. With this code, most of the time, the engine will not start or run. Remember, the circuit that senses the voltage at the power relay is open. Or, the power relay is working just fine and the sense circuit has gone bad.

This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Make a note of this information as it may be useful if the code is intermittent. Ask Cancel. Its been perfectly fine since! Free Registration. It took me 15 minutes cleaning the ASD relays. AVS Forum. She said it clicked 2 times. Jump to Latest Follow. I was thinking I may have messed something up when doing the TSB, but I have triple checked everything and it appears to be just as described in the tsb.
If this happens to your ride, we get your concern, but the key piece of advice is not to drive around too much with the code and figure out a solution quickly.
I will let them have it another month and see if they can figure it out. If you find a relevant TSB, it may provide helpful diagnostic information. She said it clicked 2 times. The time now is AM. Then I had to put it back in the shop for the same issues. This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Unfortunately that would indicate a PCM problem. Then nothing. Then see if it gets grounded when cranking the engine. I expect the timing fine, again because it runs fine when it turns over. Joined Aug 9, I believe he had put the aftermarket sensors in himself but they didn't start failing right away.
Instead of criticising write the variants is better.
In it something is. Many thanks for the information, now I will not commit such error.
You were mistaken, it is obvious.
