The remastered Player Core book for Second Edition Pathfinder makes some substitutions for which classes are featured in their main roster. With the sorcerer shifted out of the main roster in favor of the witch, bards have a special niche as the only remastered class to wield spontaneous casting. These changes make bard suitable as a good class option for first-time players or converts from adjacent systems. With a healthy blend of spellcasting, utility skills, and support powers, they give a glimpse into many different parts of the broader game system without requiring mastery of all the individual parts. Pathfinders Bards have multiple roles they can fit into depending on the character concept you are aiming for and the class features that appeal to you the most. Among the cast of the Player Core book, they're the only class to wield charisma as their key attribute. This means they can default into a role as party diplomat unless another party member goes out of their way to specialize. The bard's unique mechanic are compositions, musical spells that provide ongoing benefits to the party. In this way, bards benefit from having a large group to receive the buffs. They pair well with classes with companions such as animal order druids. The broader identity of the bard is tied to their subclass, determined by the muse that inspires them. Each offers different focus spells, feats, and compositions. The multifarious muse feat allows your muse to branch across more than one category. If you're stuck deciding between them, the maestro is a good first choice.

Unless you pathfinder bard handbook to focus solely on a single Muse, starting with Maestro and then taking Multifarious Muse to add a second Muse type is a great option.

Not at all. This will work best for the espionage style of character. Expert spellcaster increases your proficiency for occult spell attack rolls and spell DCs to expert rank. I hear the following comments often: "The Bard is good at what he does. Improved Critical: Double your threat range. Certainly a mere shadow of the 3. You start with a hit point maximum of eight plugs your Constitution modifier, and that max increases by this number each time you level up. It's true that most creatures have a good Fort Save. The changes have been made. The Basics. My original understanding was the same as Abraham's but I'd love to see some official Paizo confirmation of this. This is really nice, because it means even knowledges that you aren't really great with, you can take 20, and with your Bardic Knowledge added in, a lot of ranks in the skill will likely not be required. Yes, I'm a Pathfinder convert. Gained at 2nd level, versatile performance lets you use your perform skill in place of a skill check for different skills depending on what type of performer you are. The alt racial traits just make them even better. However, if that is your type of character, you may want this as well. As an additional note concerning Versatile Performance, be wary of taking Oratory and Acting or Dancing as your first two performances. Most 20th level capstone abilities are ridiculous and this one is no different. The Bard class gives you an automatic boost to its primary ability score, Charisma. Downside is the limited usefulness. However, if someone is interested in discussing character concept in the replies, and wants some feedback or suggestions, I would be happy to. Also, Versatile Performance doesn't actually specify that you change the stat on which the skill is based, just that you replace the skill bonus you have in that skill with you skill bonus in the performance, and specifically includes the Charisma bonus. Jack of all trades: Not something you should put too much thought into at character creation. Most importantly, they can learn the skill feats for those skills using their performance to meet any requirements.
