IT takes on many forms in the miniseries and movie adaptations, but the book truly unleashed the creature, leading to many more transformations. The true genius of IT, at least as far as being scary, is that it can become basically anything, with almost no real limitations. IT can imitate humans, transform into animals, it could probably become a chair and wait for someone to sit down if it so chose. IT can also turn into fictional - within the book's universe - monsters, letting it prey directly on pop culture-based fears. While IT is far from the only shape-shifting villain in horror history, it's arguably the best, most terrifying example. As Tim Curry's Pennywise put it onscreen in , IT is everything its victims have ever been afraid of, it's their worst dreams come true.

In the book, Richie gets attacked by a giant statue of folklore character Paul Bunyan, a scene which partially made its way into IT Chapter Two.

Always intended to be gargantuan in scope, the novel It took an uncharacteristically long time for King to write—about half a decade between and —as he attempted to examine childhood and the scars we forget it leaves. Hence the first major cinematic telling of It being divided into two movies, with the finale alone running at nearly three hours. Yet for all its wistful melancholy about the agonies and ecstasies of youth that are better left in the past, It Chapter Two and its source material still boils down to one thing for most folks: a scary clown named Pennywise and the monstrous things he gets up to. Technically speaking, Pennywise is not actually what It is. Rather Pennywise is just one of many forms an extraterrestrial, godlike being takes in order to lure small children into the deadlights. But just what are the deadlights, what is It, and how long have they been in Derry? The short answer is yes. It most definitely is not from around here, nor is It even part of our own universe. I'm everything you ever were afraid of. This version of It is a combination of its default form of Pennywise the Dancing Clown and the Giant Spider as described in the book. The Losers each mutually take hold of the heart and crush it slowly. It Creature. The only survivor of a dying planet. Take it Georgie It can be taken by surprise and can be physically assaulted if the attacker demonstrates no fear of it. A concept related to Todash Darkness from the Dark Tower novels. The Losers are forced to leave Eddie's body in It's lair, as the Neibolt House collapses on itself, sinking into a hole in the ground. In the book, Bill and Richie actually correct Richie's belief that it was a leper, saying its condition more resembled syphilis. While IT is far from the only shape-shifting villain in horror history, it's arguably the best, most terrifying example. After its death, Richie tries to coerce Eddie's corpse awake, not accepting that he was truly gone.

Other evidence from this series suggests It is the creation of a separate omnipotent creator referred to as "The Other" who may be the entity Gan. It's not a friendly visit, as Jimmy was locked up for murdering and partially eating her. There's a reason Georgie's death is always IT's signature scene. Even when on duty, IT never misses an opportunity to scare the hell out of anyone within its radar, which is quite far-encompassing. According to the creature, frightened flesh tastes better and uses fear to "salt the meat". They broke it's legs, beat in it's head and 'killed' the beast by tearing out it's heart before crushing it, causing the creature's physical form to die and the deadlights to fade away. In all versions of IT , the monster's physical form it uses to consume prey and battle the Losers is a giant spider, although it's certainly unlike any spider species from Earth, befitting IT 's otherworldly origins. And you will, too. You'll die if you try! Because of this narcissism, IT makes mistakes and does illogical things.
