Update: Erin posted on Instagram today that they have a few last-minute openings for a stay in The Lost Kitchen cabins!

The Central Coast of Maine, near Penobscot Bay, has a mild climate with an average annual snowfall of 59 inches and average annual rainfall of 48 inches. Generally summers are mild with temperatures rarely going above 80 degrees. Expect cool weather on most summer nights, especially along the coast where sea breezes can feel quite cool.

My husband and I were fortunate to have stayed in one of the four cabins at The Lost Kitchen last October. You can read that post here. If you are one of the lucky ones to reserve a table for a dinner reservation, you are most likely going to need a place to stay. Freedom is tiny, like really tiny. The population is ! There are no hotels, and those in the area often require a two-night stay which may or may not work for your plans. Recently, The Lost Kitchen opened a shop at The Mill, the same building as the restaurant, and we were so excited to visit. We found this Airbnb about a half-hour away, which was a lovely find! When we first arrived, we met Ed the owner in the small general store. The apartment is located above the store. We picked up the keys and bought a blueberry pie obviously , and he gave us a basket to pick our blueberries. The apartment is perfect for a couple or a family.
We have a yearly trip to Maine coming up Aug 21 — In the short time, we spent in the cabins, we took several walks.

The smoke goes straight up so that no one is sitting downwind of the firepit. We will literally be coming from Oregon and fly to the East Coast! What an amazing experience!! Can you believe I have yet to watch the show? Kathryn, it was so special! So much of what I read I felt deep inside when staying in one of her cozy cabins, eating the cheese plate upon arrival, drinking the first pot of pressed coffee with a little pot of cream, and then when breakfast arrived and how much care and love that went into this simple, but amazing first meal of the day. Ice storms are regular in winter and early spring, and rain is frequent in every month. She cares for people with warmth and food and you can truly feel the love in all of the little details of this experience. We have watched your shows since they have been aired on Magnolia Network. Lobster rolls, the jagged coastline, and blueberries! Winters in Maine are cold but not frigid. Thanks for your great description and photos …. Kathy, You have a strong history in Maine!
