Thread starter sledneck Start date Sep 1, They are just now starting to do some preventative maintance, and any sled with that many miles is going to need preventative maintance. A properly tuned and well maintained will go places many mod sleds can, and usually polaris rmk 900 problems the highmark on the hill.

When Polaris announced its line up, one thing that stood out was the expansion of the Shift model line. From a single sport model last year, the Shift moniker has spread to include an introductory priced fan-cooled sport sled all the way up to a powder model with full-blown, top of the food chain power. This is the fellow who wants a barebones powder machine because he fully intends to build his own powder special with aftermarket parts and accessories. Designed to play in powder, the Shift is at home on the trail. Introduced last season, the Polaris designed and built 2-stroke is claimed to deliver horsepower from a relatively compact twin cylinder package. Polaris says its Liberty high output Cleanfire4 twin offers exceptional power per pound, making it a good choice for powder and sport rider. This is, after all, the company whose RMK series earned its name — Rocky Mountain King — by winning most all major hill climb competitions over the years. Where the Shift shaves a few dollars is in shocks.

Polaris really dropped the ball on this one, and left it up to the consumer to fix most of it. Lots of defects from the factory, which required several trips to the shop for updates. Not to mention they dont have a very good reputation, not many people are willing to pay much for them. Explore Our Forums. It is in the shop a lot for running issues. This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. The problem is that most people don't know how to properly tune anything anymore and it takes a litttle more then just a few things to get it set up clutching wise to the point it is using all that potential power. Back to top. The engine did run good, lots of toque. JavaScript is disabled. It would go through anything, but turning was a different story, I could tell something had to be done there and the clutch was burning up the belt real fast so I didn't want to put too many miles on it until most of the above was done and now that it is it's just a matter of getting used to the IQ chassis from the old Gen II. Recommended Communities. Test run it ran and the battery meter is half, runs boggy if you get on the throttle. Nothing ever came close to beating it on the lakes. If you let off the throttle and get back on, it will sometimes catch and then get up to an average of 7, RPM. I tested TPS.
