After the smashing hit of its predecessor, Prey 2 is finally confirmed to be in the works. The movie served as a prequel to the sci-fi action-horror franchise, centered on Amber Midthunder's Naru during the early s in the Great Plains as she fought to protect her tribe from the arrival of the iconic Predator. Nearly two years after the last movie's Hulu premiere, Deadline reports that Prey 2 is in the early stages of development at 20th Century Studios. There is no talent confirmed to be returning yet, but Midthunder is in talks to reprise her role of Naru for the sequel, breaking the franchise tradition of sequels focusing on new characters. Despite anticipation for the sequel, the studio is currently putting its focus on a new standalone Predator movie, Badlands , with Prey 's Dan Trachtenberg returning to write and direct the project. While the movie's success seemingly guaranteed that a new Predator movie would follow shortly after, the confirmation that a Prey 2 is in development is an exciting update for the franchise. The credits for the movie teased the arrival of three new Predator vessels on Earth, all of which were seemingly coming directly for Naru and her tribe. Though it's unclear whether it's for revenge or to show respect, as seen at the end of previous movies, it did seem like the ultimate setup for a sequel. Should the sequel indeed move forward with Midthunder back in the lead, it would actually break a unique Predator franchise tradition by having her be the first actor to reprise their role in a follow-up. Predator 2 notably shifted the entire setting from the jungle to Los Angeles, while Predators initially teased the original setting before it was revealed to take place on the alien race's home planet.
