But since the properties are already there and used by the game a change to this setup would probably break a lot of logic in the game - not to speak of running games. IDK how it works with servers. I don't think it was always like this though, I seem to remember that when I first started playing PZ it was a random time. There is always 1 in every trash can, usually along with a cockroach good for fishing bait. There is plenty of food and plenty of water on the map, as long as you are willing to go and get it you can probably last a full in-game year without worrying about any kind of more sustainable solution.
