Hospitality group Merivale wanted to bring them together at the redeveloped Queens Hotel in Enmore. Hogarth and Friesen are inspired by every level of Hong Kong dining, including popular standards such as roast duck and barbeque pork. During the day, Queen Chow offers exclusively traditional Cantonese-style dumplings by Eric Koh dumplings will also be available at night. The design of the downstairs bistro has all the colours and features of a rural pub: dark timbers, green tints, leather and not a hint of concrete or steel anywhere. The plant-filled courtyard is more Coogee Pavilion in look and feel. The Smelly Goat, upstairs, has a swanky tavern feel with black timber panelling, taxidermied birds and an onyx bar. Many of these recommendations originally come from my best friend who has called Sydney her home for 10 years and is a local to Newtown and Enmore. I was working on my things to do in Sydney blog post when I realised I had so many recommendations for just Newtown and Enmore that it made sense to give this travel guide its own space here on Postcards from Hawaii. It was equal distance from her and the heart of Sydney and came highly recommended by her. Newtown ended up being my favourite area in Sydney and I miss it every day.
