Following his arrest, he forged an uneasy alliance with fellow inmates Gamora , Drax the Destroyer , Rocket Raccoon , and Groot , who together formed the Guardians of the Galaxy. They first rallied as a team by stopping Ronan the Accuser from destroying Xandar with the Power Stone. However, after Rocket stole some of the batteries, Ayesha sent the Sovereign fleet after them.

Quill is initially depicted as a member of the mercenary group called the Ravagers who was abducted from Earth as a child by Yondu Udonta after his mother died. Drax the Destroyer : This vermin speaks of affairs he knows nothing about! Shortly after entering, they were interrupted by Master Karja and Orgoscope's guards, which partially resulted in their spacesuits getting ejected to space when Mantis mistook the contamination bin for a locker. Quill, Drax, and Mantis later traveled to Titan to confront Thanos in person.
