Given that individuals with Parkinson's often experience impaired olfactory function years before the onset of motor symptoms, Ruth regards the olfactory system as a promising therapeutic target to potentially impede the spread of pathology. In the long term, Ruth envisions the utilization of a human olfactory cell model to establish a nationwide screening platform for the early detection of Parkinson's disease.
