De ramadan is een bijzondere maand voor alle moslims in Nederland. Toch is het voor sommige mensen ook een hele moeilijke tijd. Het is een heilige maand van bezinning en verbondenheid. De ramadan wordt ook wel de vastenmaand genoemd, omdat tussen zonsopkomst en zonsondergang gevast wordt om de ziel te zuiveren en Allah te bedanken voor alles wat Hij geschonken heeft. Moslims in Nederland herdenken tijdens de ramadan dat profeet Mohammed vrede zij met hem de eerste openbaringen van de Koran ontving. De Ramadan is dus een bijzondere maand, maar voor sommige mensen is de ramadan ook een extra moeilijke tijd. Bijvoorbeeld omdat ze geen volwaardige maaltijd op tafel kunnen toveren, of omdat ze ver weg van hun thuis en hun dierbaren zijn en in eenzaamheid leven. Dit speelt zich helaas nog steeds af in Nederland.
