This year's Rouleur live was packed with stunning new bikes, and Ribble had quite a few showstoppers parked on its stand at the premium bike show hosted at London's Truman Brewery. This time, one of the custom creations the British brand had on show was this Allroad Ti Prototype, a titanium road bike that, as the name suggests, is still in its prototype stage. Likely to hit the markets early next year, it certainly looks very nice, so we've taken a look at the details. Talking to Ribble's head of product Jamie Burrow at Rouleur, he said that the Ti Prototype is the first one in the brand's upcoming, broader range refresh. It's also a bike that attracted a lot of attention from the staff members at Ribble, Burrow said, telling how they all stopped to admire the bike's sleek looks. Burrow explained how this allowed Ribble to deviate from the traditional round tube shape and create a more aerodynamic frame. It's also been really helpful for internal cable routing - inside this headtube it's all open so you won't be getting cables cut up," he said.

The most interesting of the 5 to us is this prototype Ribble Allroad Ti. Using 3D-printed titanium, Ribble creates the smooth look of an aero carbon bike. But with all those lovely benefits of building with ti. Durability, a road buzz-eating smooth ride, and the beauty of a raw metal finish. Besides aerodynamics, additive manufacturing also let Ribble integrate fully internal cable routing and a built-in hidden integrated seat clamp. The ti frame gets an etched-in headtube logo, and a brushed finish. While all the carbon parts get painted in speckled Ice Marble. This is probably the most visually impressive of the bunch. The Vic Lee E itself is everything but stealthy overall. But with all the dazzling hand drawing over the muted pink frameset… It is easy to overlook the Mahle X35 hub motor out back. The journey visually expresses the joy and freedom of cycling and interweaves the narrative with the cities, iconic locations, tow paths and twisting roads down to Shoreditch.

The chassis uses flat-mounts for the disc brakes and the minimal rear dropouts look premium. The ride position is sporty but not slammed — something I approve of — with the large frame measuring up with a mm stack and mm reach. It comes up a little longer than the average endurance-shaped bike and a little lower, too. Personally, I think Ribble has got the position right and it feels totally dialled when you combine the geometry with superlative contact points. The in-house brand Level handlebar has a slight backsweep, so when you put your hands up on the tops to take a short breather, the reach is shortened a little. It makes things more relaxed and I found it a comfortable handhold for long, steady climbs. The bar is wrapped in Level-branded PU tape with a great all-weather texture.
